World Women’s Snooker Day took place yesterday in the Sheffield Winter Garden Cue Zone during the Halo World Snooker Championship.
The annual event saw players from the World Women’s Snooker (WWS) Tour help raise awareness of women’s snooker and the opportunities available for women to pick up a cue and play our sport competitively at all levels.
The day also celebrated 10 years since the WWS Tour became an official subsidiary company of snooker’s world governing body the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA).
Among the players in attendance were the Belgian trio of Anja Vandenbussche, Elise Boon and Martine Ketels as well as Zeinab Shahi from Iran.
Reigning World Women’s Seniors champion Tessa Davidson led the activities in the Cue Zone alongside fellow WPBSA qualified snooker coaches and they offered tips and advice to new players who came along and were looking to get involved in the sport.
During the afternoon’s Halo World Championship coverage, broadcaster Abigail Davies spoke to Hannah Jones and Daisy May Oliver in a live television segment as the two discussed life on the WWS Tour, the upcoming World Women’s Snooker Championship in China, practice with Mark Allen and more.
Six-time world champion Steve Davis also took time out during the BBC coverage to offer some advice to the WWS Tour players and pose for a group photo towards the conclusion of a memorable day.
The WWS Tour is growing globally with events held in Europe, America, Africa and the Asia-Pacific regions this season and continues to provides inspirational opportunities and promote inclusivity for women and girls of all age groups, experience and levels of ability.
