The World Women’s Snooker (WWS) Tour continues from Friday with the launch of an all-new world ranking event as the Irish Women’s Snooker Open runs from 28-30 November at the SBI HQ in Carlow, Ireland.

A strong field is set to welcome six of the world’s top eight players to the Emerald Isle, including world number one Mink Nutcharut, reigning world champion Bai Yulu and three-time world champion Ng On Yee.

They are set to be joined by India’s Anupama Ramachandran, Thailand’s Narucha Phoemphul and England’s Tessa Davidson, with a mix of regular Tour players and new and returning starts set to complete the draw.

Five players will represent our host nation Ireland, with Paula Judge and Tanya O’Neill set to play in their first Tour event since 2018, while Michelle Sherwin and Margaret O’Driscoll will play their first competitions since 2005 and 2001 respectively. There is a debut for 19-year-old Ella O’Connor, who completes the local line-up.

Players from nine countries in total are represented in the draw, including players from Asia and mainland Europe who will contest the title.

Side-tournaments will be held for Under-21 and Seniors players, as well a Challenge Cup competition staged alongside the knockout rounds, for players already out of the main competition prior to the quarter-finals stage.

Format

The format will be as follows:

  • The players have been drawn in four groups of a maximum of five players
  • The top two players from each group will progress to the knockout stage
  • All qualifiers from the group stages will be positioned in the knockout draw according to group stage performance in line with our established qualifying criteria

Group matches will see all three frames played, knockout rounds to be best of 5/7/7.

The format for the side tournaments will be straight knockout.
