Next month marks a special milestone for World Women’s Snooker (WWS) as we prepare to celebrate our 40th anniversary and those who have helped to shape the women’s game.

It was on the 31 July 1981 that following a period of uncertainty with regards to the future of the women’s circuit, the landmark decision to form the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association by a committee of seven that included Mandy Fisher, a finalist in that year’s world championship.

Now, almost 40 years later, we are proud to celebrate a history which has seen over 320 events staged during that time, including more than 630 individual tournaments for women and girls across the globe.

With Fisher still at the helm as our president today and with the support of the WPBSA since 2015, the WWS Tour has grown significantly in recent years, with tournaments staged across the world and players from 29 countries currently on the world ranking list.

It is because of this growth that the tour has been recognised by the professional game, with the announcement that the circuit is to become an official qualifying pathway to the World Snooker Tour for the first time.

But we also appreciate that it is thanks to the support and dedication of all of the players, officials and others who have contributed to the Tour during the past 40 years that this landmark has been reached.

Over the coming weeks therefore, we are excited to be able to celebrate our history with you all and to recognise the great champions who have helped to put women’s snooker on the map during that time.

We will be running a series of features on this website celebrating the history of our tour, including our greats past and present, as well as more news on future tournaments as the circuit prepares to resume this autumn.

We also look forward to bringing to you new records and statistics, officially compiled following a process that has seen us produce an extensive record of our tournament history for the first time.
